The unicorns are riding high

November 6, 2007 at 6:19 am (morning, sleep) (, )

Maybe it’s strange, but I love the early morning hours, even if I forget it all the time.

I’m always at my most efficient before about 7:30, possibly because I’m not awake enough to be as scatter-minded as I usually am. It’s a lot easier to focus when your brain is not even trying to think about more than one thing at a time.

There’s also something beautiful about being awake before the rest of the world… something tremendously peaceful about being the only person in the house or apartment conscious, and knowing that you’re aware of other people’s days beginning.

That said, I’m completely exhausted, but that has far more to do with not sleeping for two nights and getting less than three hours of sleep last night. I really do need to figure out how to fall asleep earlier; I can’t wait to not be sick and get the okay to run or bike again, because obviously I sleep infinitely better if I’m bone-tired, like this summer. I’ve never had so easy a time sleeping as when I was in bed at 1, up by 5, doing hard labor for 7-9 hours, and in a hot kitchen for at least another 4 or 5.

New goal is to get most of my homework done before I go to bed and to finish it the morning, when I can actually think. This also means I’ll actually be awake in my first class, instead of catatonic, like normal. Hopefully I’ll be able to hit the stationary bike after Thursday, so I’m going to start dragging some sympathetic soul to Fike with me.

Good morning!!
